Christmas in Sydney

Gwenda Beed Davey specialist in Children's Folklore gave permission for me to adapt and include my adaption here. The 'prawns on the Esplanade' can have a double meaning coming after the word heave !! Children will probably like this.

Lyrics

Gwenda Davey adapted Lobl

Christmas in Sydney is cherries & cicadas,
Sunshine and swimming and sand in your hair.
Pudding and ice cream and cold meat forever,
Hot winds and holidays, who's got a care?

We wish you a Merry Christmas a very Merry Christmas.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Christmas in Sydney is jump in the water,
Grandpa and Grandma come over for tea.
Giggling and guzzling lemonade and icy poles,
Present and kisses and a yacht race to see.

Christmas in Sydney is a Ferry to Manly,
Shiver at Pinchgut and hard cruel times.
Out in the sun again heave as the heads go by,
Prawns on the Esplanade under the pines.
